Stakeholders in Cape Coast have intensified calls for safer migration practices following a high-level engagement on the risks of irregular migration.
On Wednesday, March 18, 2025, the Mayor of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, attended the Migrant Media Action Project (MMAct) as a Special Guest at the Ridge Royal Hotel.
The event, organised by the Songba Empowerment Centre, brought together media practitioners and personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service to deliberate on the growing challenges associated with unsafe and irregular migration.
Discussions at the forum highlighted the increasing vulnerability of migrants to exploitation, human rights abuses, and the difficulties many face during reintegration. Participants emphasized the need for intensified public education to discourage risky migration practices, particularly among the youth.
The programme served as a critical platform to raise awareness, promote informed decision-making, and advocate for safer and more regulated migration pathways.
The initiative was widely commended by stakeholders for its relevance and commitment to addressing one of the pressing social issues affecting communities in Ghana and beyond.
