Profile

Mayor Ernest Arthur is a graduate of the Cape Coast Technical University with specialization in Marketing Studies. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Governance, Environment and Sustainable Development from the School for Development Studies, University of Cape Coast.

Hon. Arthur is serving his second term as the Mayor of Cape Coast. During this period, he has strengthened the Sister-City Relations with the City of Bonn, Germany and has signed a Sister-City partnership agreement with the City of New Orleans. Under his leadership, Cape Coast became a member of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability. He has led several development initiatives to improve the livelihoods of the people through education, job creation, tourism development, local economic development, waste management and sanitation.

Mayor Arthur has attended several international conferences/summits including COP 23 in Bonn, Germany in 2017, the 2022 ICLEI World Congress in Malmo, Sweden, Sustainable Development Partnership Conference in Bonn, Germany in 2022, COP 15 in Montreal, Canada in December 2022, among others.

Prior to his appointment as Mayor of Cape Coast in May 2017, he was the Constituency Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Cape Coast South.

He is also a businessman with business interest in Oil and Gas. He is the owner and Chief Executive Officer of ERNART Enterprise Ltd and Fish Farming. In 2010, He won the Best Fish Farmer Award in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly. Between 2005 and 2008, he worked as a Deputy Western Regional Premix Coordinator having done his National Service in a similar area with Fisherman Service Center in Sekondi a year earlier.

Hon. Ernest Arthur has interest in sustainability, innovation, fishing, farming and football.
