Pedu M/A Basic School B Wins 1st Climate Olympics in Cape Coast

On Tuesday morning, February 17, 2026, the Mayor of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, received the winners of the inaugural Climate Olympics, organized by Banyani.

The Central Regional Champions, Pedu M/A Basic School B, led by their Headmistress and accompanied by teachers and representatives from the Cape Coast Metro Education Directorate, paid a courtesy call to officially present their plaque and cash prize to the Mayor.

The Climate Olympics brought together selected public and private schools across Cape Coast to promote awareness and education on climate change. After a highly competitive contest, Pedu M/A Basic School B emerged as champions, with Apewosika M/A Basic School taking second place and Flowers Gay School finishing third.

Mayor Arthur expressed immense pride in the pupils, highlighting his surprise that some of the top contestants were in Primary 6. He commended the organizers, school leadership, teachers, and the Education Directorate for nurturing environmentally conscious young minds and positioning Cape Coast as a hub for climate advocacy and academic excellence.

The achievement reflects the commitment of schools in the metropolis to shaping responsible future leaders who are informed, proactive, and engaged in addressing climate change.
