Mayor Pledges Major Development Projects at Ekon Apayem Festival
                                            
                                                On Saturday, 20th September 2025, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, joined the Chief of Ekon, Nana Kwame Edu Ababio II, elders, and the people of Ekon to celebrate the vibrant and culturally rich Ekon Apayem Festival. The event drew residents, dignitaries, and visitors from near and far, united in honouring the deep traditions and heritage of the Ekon community.
Speaking at the colourful durbar, Hon. George Justice Arthur extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Ekon on behalf of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly and the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan. He reaffirmed that both the Assembly and the MP remain steadfast in their commitment to the development of Ekon and are working collaboratively to ensure the community receives the attention and investment it deserves.
As part of this commitment, the Mayor announced several key interventions, including plans to construct a modern landing beach to boost the local fishing industry and create jobs. He also addressed the persistent network connectivity challenges in the area, assuring residents that measures are being taken to resolve them soon. Additionally, Hon. Arthur revealed plans to transform the Ekon Community Park into a state-of-the-art astroturf, promoting sports development and youth empowerment in the community.
Also in attendance were Hon. Ernest Arthur, former Mayor of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA), and Hon. Sarah Afful, former Central Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), whose presence added significance to the occasion.
The announcements were met with excitement and applause from the chiefs and residents, who expressed their appreciation for the MCE’s proactive leadership and dedication to inclusive growth.
Hon. George Justice Arthur concluded his address by thanking the chiefs and people of Ekon for their warm hospitality and reaffirmed his resolve to continue working closely with traditional authorities and community stakeholders to drive sustainable development and lasting progress in the area.
