Revitalizing Lighthouse Monument as Tourism Asset Visitation

Revitalizing Lighthouse Monument as Tourism Asset

Cape Coast, July 11, 2025 — The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, on Friday paid a working visit to the historic Lighthouse monument, underscoring his administration’s commitment to enhancing the city’s tourism appeal and driving economic growth through improved infrastructure.

The visit focused on assessing the deteriorated road leading to the Lighthouse, which has long posed challenges to accessibility. Hon. Arthur stressed the strategic importance of the monument, describing it not only as a cherished heritage site but also as a potential catalyst for economic activity if properly developed. Accompanied by technical officers and stakeholders, the MCE explored the possibility of reconstructing the road to improve connectivity to the site. He emphasized that better access would increase visitor traffic, stimulate local businesses, and strengthen Cape Coast’s reputation as a hub of historical and cultural tourism.

“As a city rich in history, we must ensure that our monuments and heritage sites are not only preserved but made easily accessible,” Hon. Arthur stated. “Rehabilitating the road to the Lighthouse will open up opportunities for job creation and community development.” The visit forms part of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly’s broader strategy to revitalize tourism infrastructure and harness the city’s cultural assets for sustainable development.
