Mayor, GES Directors Visit Basic Schools to Strengthen Education Delivery

On Monday, 15th September 2025, the Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, joined the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the Central Regional Director of GES, Dr. Mrs. Juliette Dufie Otami, and a team of officials from both the Regional and Metropolitan Education Directorates on a working visit to selected basic schools within the Metropolis.

The delegation visited St. Francis Catholic Basic School and Jacob Wilson-Sey Basic School, where they interacted directly with headteachers, teaching staff, and pupils. The visit aimed to gain first-hand insight into the conditions of the schools, understand the challenges affecting effective teaching and learning, and engage stakeholders in finding practical solutions.

During the engagement, several concerns were raised, including infrastructure gaps, the availability of teaching and learning materials, teacher motivation, and pupil attendance. Pupils also had the opportunity to share their experiences and aspirations, underscoring the importance of keeping learners at the center of educational policy and planning.

This initiative forms part of a broader commitment by the GES and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly to prioritize foundational education and ensure that quality learning takes place in a safe and conducive environment. By connecting directly with schools and communities, stakeholders aim to develop responsive and impactful interventions that address real challenges on the ground.

Hon. George Justice Arthur reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering support for education in the Metropolis and emphasized the need for continued collaboration among government agencies, school authorities, and communities to build a stronger educational foundation for Cape Coast’s children.

Education, he noted, remains the cornerstone of transformation, and visits like these reinforce the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in nurturing the next generation of leaders.
