Cape Coast 8-Year Development Plan Forum Unites Stakeholders for City’s Transformation

The Cape Coast Edition of the 8-Year Development Plan and Fundraising Forum was successfully held on Thursday, 13th August 2026, at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium, University of Cape Coast (UCC).

The forum brought together a distinguished gathering of traditional leaders, government officials, academia, clergy, the media, development partners, and sons and daughters of Cape Coast, all united by a shared commitment to transforming the metropolis into a more vibrant, resilient, and prosperous city.

The occasion was chaired by the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area and Council of State Member, Osabarima Dr. Kwesi Atta II, alongside members of the Oguaa Traditional Council.

The Special Guest of Honour, Mr. Michael Harry Yamson, Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), graced the occasion and provided important updates on key development projects earmarked for Cape Coast.

Other distinguished guests included Hon. Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast; Mr. Sampson Ahianyo, Representative of the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South; former Chief of Staff, Nana Ato Dadzie; Prof. Kweku A. Ayim Boakye, Vice Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University; a representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast; Dr. Mrs. Juliet Dufie Otami, Central Regional Director of Education, representing the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service; as well as other distinguished personalities.

The Host and Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, took participants through the various sectors and projects outlined in the ambitious 8-Year Development Plan. He also provided a detailed account of pledges made during the first fundraising edition held in Accra and highlighted projects that are expected to commence as the Assembly continues to mobilise the necessary support and resources to advance the development agenda of Cape Coast.

In a significant development, the Administrator of the DACF, Mr. Michael Harry Yamson, announced that the stalled Anaafo Market project will soon be completed. He further disclosed that Abura is set to benefit from an ultramodern market, with construction expected to commence soon.

The forum also witnessed fresh pledges from individuals and stakeholders towards the implementation of the 8-Year Development Plan, demonstrating renewed commitment to the collective development of the metropolis.

The successful Cape Coast Edition of the forum underscores the power of collective action and shared vision in driving the transformation of the city. The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly remains committed to working with traditional authorities, government, development partners, the private sector, and the people of Cape Coast to translate the vision into tangible development outcomes.
