In line with Government's commitment to revitalizing Ghana's poultry industry and reducing the country's dependence on imported frozen chicken, the "Nkoko Nketsenketse" initiative under the Feed Ghana Programme has officially taken off in the Cape Coast South Constituency.

On Monday, 6th July 2026, the Agric Department of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA), with the support of the Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, and the Advisor at the Office of the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Mr. Sampson Ahianyo, commenced the distribution of six-week-old chicks to registered beneficiary households.

A total of 8,000 chicks will be distributed under the programme, with each household receiving approximately 40 chicks to support backyard poultry farming and boost household incomes. The exercise was officially led by the Metropolitan Director of Agriculture, Madam Olympia Williams, who also took beneficiaries through the distribution process and best poultry management practices.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Mayor and the MP's Advisor underscored the importance of the initiative in advancing food security, creating economic opportunities, and reducing the huge foreign exchange spent on imported poultry products. They urged recipients to nurture the birds responsibly to ensure the programme achieves its intended impact.

The Nkoko Nketsenketse initiative is a bold investment in local agriculture, sustainable livelihoods, and a resilient food system, bringing Ghana one step closer to poultry self-sufficiency.
