Cape Coast - On Saturday 6th September 2025, the Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, together with the Members of Parliament for Cape Coast North and South, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku and Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan respectively, joined the Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Dr. Kwesi Atta II, his sub-chiefs, and the people of Cape Coast to celebrate this year’s much-anticipated Oguaa Fetu Afahye. The festival, which is one of the most vibrant and historic cultural celebrations in Ghana, spanned a week of traditional rituals, community activities, and colourful events. It was gracefully climaxed with a spectacular Grand Durbar at Jubilee (Victoria) Park on Saturday. The occasion brought together chiefs, elders, citizens, and well-wishers from far and near in a true display of unity, culture, and heritage. The Grand Durbar was graced by several distinguished personalities including Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Policy Advisor for Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice President, who represented H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of Ghana, who was scheduled to be the Special Guest of Honour but was unavoidably out of the country on official duties. Also in attendance were the King and Queen of the Owari Kingdom in Nigeria, the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr. Anthony Kwesi Sarpong, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Hon. Armah Blay Nyameke, as well as a host of government officials, traditional leaders, dignitaries, and friends of Cape Coast. This year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye once again underscored the pride of Cape Coast as the heartbeat of tradition, culture, and history. The celebration highlighted the resilience and unity of the people, while also attracting national and international recognition. Indeed, Oguaaman continues to shine as a beacon of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
